Week of March 22-25

To all of my classes: Although I will be away this week, feel free to email me if you have any questions about your assignments.

American Literature: Continuing to read The Great Gatsby, with a little bit of grammar review thrown in. The final test over this book will be next Friday, April 1.

Homework:

Tuesday: Read ch. 7 pp. 131-143. G.U.M. p. 63
Wednesday: Finish worksheet (love triangle). Finish reading chapter 7. WARNING: there is a graphic description of violence at the top of p. 145--if you would rather not expose yourself to it, skip the top half of the page.
Thursday: Finish grammar worksheet
Friday: 1-page response to the movie: How is what you saw in the movie different from your understanding based on having read the book? Do the characters in the movie match how you imagined them to be?

World Literature: Continuing to read The Hiding Place. Final test will be next Tuesday.

Homework:

Tuesday: read chapters 11-12
Wednesday: read chapter 13
Thursday: read chapter 14
Friday: read chapter 15

World History: We are finishing chapter 19 and will have a test over chapters 18-19 on Friday of this week.

Week of March 14-18

Our sympathies and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in northeast Japan, especially those who have lost loved ones and those who are currently lacking food, water, and shelter. We pray for further harm to be averted, for needs to be met, for comfort for all those who are grieving, and that even in this time of distress, the Japanese people would find strength and salvation in Jesus Christ. "My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me" (Psalm 63:8).

American Literature: We are continuing to read The Great Gatsby; there will be a test over chapters 1-6 on Thursday, and after that we will continue through to the end of the book.

Homework:

Monday: Read ch. 6, pp. 103-118
Tuesday-Wednesday: study for test over The Great Gatsby ch. 1-6 on Thursday
Thursday: Chap. 7, pg. 119-131
Friday: Chapter 7 pp. 119-131; define ch. 7-9 vocabulary

World Literature:
We are continuing to read The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom; the test over chapters 1-10 will be on Friday.

Homework:

Monday: read/review chapter 8; paragraph response (The ten Boom family prepares for a Nazi raid by having drills. In your life, what is something important you can prepare for by practicing?)
Tuesday: read/review chapter 9
Wednesday: read chapter 10
Thursday: study for ch. 1-10 test

World History: This week, we will be wrapping up chapter 18 (The Renaissance in England) and begin studying some other European monarchs in chapter 19.

Week of March 7-10

American Literature: We are continuing to read The Great Gatsby.

Homework:

Monday: Read ch. 4, pp. 79-85. Complete character sheets for Jordan, Gatsby.
Tuesday: Read chapter 5, pp. 86-102. Paragraph summary of the book so far. Finish worksheet.
Wednesday: paragraph response
Thursday: reflective essay due Monday

World Literature:

Monday: Read pp. 46-64 (ch. 4 and beginning of 5)
Tuesday: Read up to p. 88 (end of chapter 6) Write a 1-page family newsletter about events in the ten Boom family from chapter 4.

World History: This week, we are beginning to study the Elizabethan age in England (the Renaissance in England), and we will also look at some other nations during this time period, the golden age of European monarchs.
