If you want to use your form poem for J-term presentation, bring it to class tomorrow typed. Friday: begin revising for portfolio (due Tuesday); revise open form or shape verse poem for Monday

Week of 14-18 January 2013

Monday: Read two short stories online: "How Much Land does a Man Need?" by Tolstoy and "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant. Worksheet. One page of brainstorming for realistic fiction story due tomorrow. Tuesday: short story proposal due tomorrow. Wednesday: 3-6 page short story due tomorrow (realistic fiction); bring TWO copes to class. These may be double-sided to save paper but MUST be double-spaced. Thursday: Finish 1-page imaginative story (from in-class list) Friday: 3-6 genre fiction story due Monday

Creative Writing homework:

Tuesday:  Vignette assignment (total of four).  For the first vignette, make a cluster diagram and then use the diagram to write your vignette.  For the other three, the cluster diagram is not required.  Each vignette should be between 1/2 page and 1 page in length. 

Wednesday:  Character sketch (see assignment sheet) due tomorrow.  Length:  2-4 typed, double-spaced pages.

Thursday:  Personal essay (see assignment sheet) due tomorrow.

Friday:  Finish meditation; due tomorrow.  Read two short stories online:  "How Much Land does a Man Need?" by Tolstoy and "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant.
