American Literature: This week, we are taking a brief look at Modernist literature; there is one final unit test on Friday.

Homework:

Tuesday: read pp. 1026-1029, 1032-1033. Do you agree with Kafka's thoughts about bachelorhood? (paragraph response)

World Literature: We are finishing our unit on Cry, The Beloved country; the unit test (over books 2-3) will be on Thursday.

World History: This week, we will briefly overview some main events from the twentieth century.

Gospel of John: Tuesday is our final unit test; we will spend the last few days of class on additional topics relating to the Bible (the Harrowing of Hell; online resources for Bible study, etc.)

Homework:

Tuesday: Write a paragraph-1/2 page about questions you still have about the Bible, God, Jesus, etc.

Week of May 23-27

American Literature: This week we are finishing our unit on The Testament by John Grisham and will then begin looking at American literature from the era of Modernism.

Homework:

Monday: LN 236. Study for test.
Tuesday: test; no HW
Wednesday: G.U.M. 164-165
Thursday: Read pp. 516-524. Write a sentence stating what happens in each section, then number them according to their chronological order.
Friday: Read pp. 528-538 and study for a quiz over this story.

World Literature: We are continuing to read Cry, the Beloved Country and will have our next unit test next week.

Homework:

Monday: Read chatpers 31-32; finish skit.
Tuesday: Read chapter 33. Worksheet.
Wednesday: read chapters 34-35.
Thursday: read chapter 36.
Friday: Write ½ page responding to the end of the book and stating whether the ending is more sad or hopeful and why.

World History: We are continuing to study WWII; we will also spend some time learning about the Cold War before the next unit test (next week).

Homework:

Gospel of John: Having just read the story of Jesus' crucifixion, we are finishing out the semester by reading about his resurrection and appearances to his disciples.

Week of May 16-20, 2011

American Literature: This week, we will be finishing The Testament by John Grisham in preparation for a test Tuesday-Wednesday of next week.

Homework:

Monday: Read ch. 40-42. Paragraph response.
Tuesday: Ch. 43-45. Vocab set 3. Bring G.U.M. tomorrow.
Wednesday: Ch. 46-48. G.U.M. 160-1.
Thursday: Ch. 49-50. G.U.M. 162-3.
Friday: Ch. 51-52 (end). Paragraph response (if unfinished). Bring LN to class Monday.

World Literature: We are continuing to read Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton. The test over the first half of this book will be Monday of this week; there will also be a final unit test when we finish reading the book.

Homework:

Monday: Read chapters 19-20. Ch. 14-17 worksheet.
Tuesday: Read chapters 21-23. Character list.
Wednesday: Read chapters 24-26.
Thursday: Read chapters 27-29. Make a chart of characters and events in chapters 18-29.

World History: We have just finished studying WWI; we will begin the week by taking a brief look at the period between the wars, after which we will study the Pacific War and WWII.

Monday: Define 6 vocab (depression, free-enterprise, fascism, anti-semitism, Nazism, appeasement); read pp. 706-714. Notes.
Tuesday: Read pp. 714-718. Notes.

Gospel of John: This week, we will be studying Jesus' arrest, trials, and crucifixion, as recorded in John 17-19. These chapters are central to understanding Jesus' mission of coming to earth to die for the sins of mankind, so that all who believe in him may be saved.

There will be a unit test over lessons 16-19 at the end of the week.

Monday: Read pp. 174-176. Do #7-13 on 176-178. Study for test Thursday.

Week of May 9-13, 2011

American Literature: We will be spending this week and next week finishing our unit on The Testament by John Grisham.

Homework:

Tuesday: Write an analysis of Rachel Lane as a character; use at least two sandwich quotes. Read ch. 29-32.
Wednesday: Read ch. 33-36
Friday: Finish written response (What difference is there between accepting forgiveness and becoming a follower? What reasons do you think Nate has for wanting to talk to Rachel at the end of Chap. 37?). Read ch. 38-39. Study for vocab quiz. Bring LN to class Friday.

World Literature: We are continuing our novel unit on Cry, the Beloved Country until the end of the school year. There will be a test over the first half of the novel at the beginning of next week.

Homework:

Tuesday: read ch. 10-11. ½ page summary of chapters 1-11

World Literature: This week, we will begin reading Cry, the Beloved Country, a novel of South Africa, written by Alan Paton.
